A Fresh Take on Power Tool Design
Designing power tools goes beyond just functionality, it’s about creating something that feels good to use and looks great, too. With over eight years of experience as a Senior Industrial Designer, I’ve had the opportunity to work on more than 30 tools, from concept to final product. For this 20V series, a jigsaw, impact drill driver, and angle grinder, I set out to design a cohesive, modern family of tools that combine smart design with practical use.
The goal here was to create sleek, flowing forms that fit comfortably in the hand without unnecessary embellishments. Using Rhino and Grasshopper, I could experiment with shapes and surfaces, ensuring each tool had both ergonomic comfort and a distinctive visual presence. The result is a set of tools that feel intuitive, functional, and a bit more exciting than your average power tool.
Design Beyond the Surface
The visual identity of this series is built around thoughtful material choices and a fresh approach to color. The tools feature light gray housings with bright accent colors, including neon yellow-green, pink, hot orange, and blue. These colors are not just eye-catching; they highlight key functional elements like the trigger, switches, and vents while also reflecting a commitment to sustainability. The combination of these bold accents with neutral tones keeps the design from feeling too loud, creating a perfect balance.
These colors give the tools personality and modern appeal, while still making sure they remain versatile and professional. The gray and black tones ground the design, allowing the vibrant accents to stand out in a way that feels fresh, but not over the top.

Cohesion in Every Detail
Every element in this collection is carefully considered to make sure the tools feel like a family. The balance between light gray, black, and bright accent colors creates a unified look. The colorful details – the pink vents, neon yellow-green logos, and hot orange speed selector arrows – not only make the tools visually interesting but also help guide the user intuitively. It’s a design that’s cohesive but never dull, with each part adding something to the whole.

Sustainability in Design
Sustainability is a key focus in this series, with eco-friendly materials used throughout the design. The light gray housing features recycled elements, and the colorful accents subtly highlight the tools’ sustainable design. By choosing materials that are both durable and responsible, I’ve created a product that performs well while also being mindful of the environment. This approach ensures that the design is modern, relevant, and aligned with today’s values.

Design that Feels Right
A power tool should feel as good as it works. I’ve paid special attention to the ergonomics and tactile experience, ensuring the tools are comfortable to hold and easy to use. The clean, balanced forms and thoughtful textures make these tools a pleasure to work with, whether you’re a seasoned DIYer or just getting into home projects. The design offers both style and substance, creating a product that looks great and works even better.
This series is a reflection of my design philosophy – tools that combine clean, modern aesthetics with user-friendly features. From the materials to the colors and shapes, every detail has been carefully crafted to create a product that stands out for all the right reasons. It’s about making work a little more enjoyable, with tools that feel as good to use as they look.
